March 2008 Archives
Went to DAWN Education Expo (held at Expo Centre Karachi) today. It wasn't as big as it was when it happened last time. It occupied a relatively less area. One hall was entirely occupied by the universitues in the UK and Australia. The other hall had the universities from Pakistan and from the USA. The folks from Goeth Institute and EduFrance were also there.
I was with the 3 A's: Akram, Ahmed and Adeel. We got done with the exhibition so early that we decided to sit and talk about our plans for the future ;)
BUT the day was so hot that we thought it would be a nice idea to go and sit together at a decent place to discuss our million dollar ideas: here comes Ahmed with a suggession that we should all go to the Hi-Tea at Hotel Mehran. Ahmed told us its a nice deal with Rs. 200 something per head. So we headed to Hotel Mehran and had some time spent there. It was nice I guess with a good number of items to try.
During our time there, we decided to go to the cinema to watch the indian movie RACE which we all heard good things about (and the trailer looked fantastic to me). Lekin as soon as we were about to head to the cinema, I got a call and I had to leave for home :( So the movie plan has been cancelled and we might go for the movie tomorrow in the evening show.
Please justify
the reason you lie
when you and I
are just the same
you look towards me
with passionate eyes
looking to survive
searching for fame
i am just me
so please keep me free
you work hard and win
just play your own game
time ticks by
and you'll fly so high
just don't envy
and you'll make your name
FAST-NU Karachi is organizing a mega event for the emerging new media artists who are studying in the various universities of Pakistan. The name of the event is DigitalEyez and it's one of those competitions which caught my eye straight away: I am somebody who can design web pages so I think I do have a bit of chance :)
The competition is not just for the web designers out there. It's also offering photography and short film/animation challenges for those who are skilled at these mediums.
The official web site for DigitalEyez is www.digitaleyez.pk where you can find each and every bit of information you might need to have, including links to register yourself in any of the competitions there.
A neat thing that I noticed was that the competition was FREE for all i.e. no entry fee was mentioned anywhere at all afaik on their web site.
There are a few more competitions which are part of this event (such as a quiz competition) which are definitely going to help make the event more interesting.
I've registered on their web site and I sincerely wish this competition gathers huge success as this is the first of its kind competition at the university level in Pakistan.
Monkeys can't be serious, I know. But I need them. I need a few really cool web monkeys who can work primarily with:
- HTML/XHTML
- CSS
- JavaScript
- PHP
- MySQL
So if you're one of those who are lucky enough to know any or all of above in the list, you can contact me. The amount of projects you'll be getting depends upon how high you can jump (that basically means how skilled and experienced you are) and how many projects do I have at any given time.
I cannot promise work coming in all the time, so this is only supposed to be a freelance deal. Ideally for those professionals who are already working at some boring place and want to do some exciting work when they get back home. Students who feel they're smart enough to know what usability and security is are encouraged to get in touch as well.
If you're a reader who knows some cheetahs, uh sorry, some monkeys who're serious when it comes to quality driven web work, do let them know.
P.S. This offer is for people living in Pakistan only.
P.P.S. 'Serious' means 'serious' - I'm serious! So, no bacha party please.
This is one of my most favorite songs, just too pure a representation of thoughts. I love this song, I love everything about it, the lyrics, the music, the singer, the lyricist! :)
The great Shoaib Mansoor along with Junaid Jamshed are just so wah wah! So here we go:
Ham Kyun Chalain Us Rah Per
Jis Rah Per Sab Hee Chalay
Kiyon Na Chunain Woh Rasta
Jis Per Naheen Koi Gayaaa
Dil Udas Nazrain Udas
Dilbar Naheen Gar Aas Pas
Din Raat Aah Bharna
Aur Beqarar Rehna
Yeh Khel Hi Bekar Hain
Kuch Bhee Naheen Angar Hain
Is Aag Main Jalain Kiyon
Pal Pal Jeeyain Marain Kiyon
Ham Kyun Chalain Us Rah Per
Jis Rah Per Sab Hee Chalay
Kiyon Na Chunain Woh Raasta
Jis Per Naheen Koi Gayaaa
Bas Dekhnay Ki Baat Hai
Ik Ishq Kia Hain hazar Ishq
Lakhon Sanam Chupain Hain
Aur Raah Dekhtey Hain
Chalo Ishq Ka Kaha Man Kar
Apna Sanam Pehchan Kar
Kisi Aisey Rang mein Rang Jayain
Sab Se Juda Nazar Aayain
Ham Kyun Chalain Us Rah Per
Jis Rah Per Sab Hee Chalay
Kiyon Na Chunain Woh Rasta
Jis Per Naheen Koi Gayaaa
UT posted a really cool link on his blog, and I thought it was so cool that I decided to steal it for my blog :)
You can find the article here: http://www.hrworld.com/features/101-reasons-to-freelance-091007/
The article highlights some nice points. Freelancers will already be familiar with most of them though but definitely some food for thought for those nine-to-five'ers! ;)
it never was alright
but it seemed like so
I was searching for the light
and it felt so low
pain and sorrow came around
all my comforts laid to ground
i was dying and i was lost
i was nowhere to be found
but it showed me how to live
and taught me how to nest
and think about the life
to live it at its best
the ride into the hell and back
i'm ready for the next!
Yes I do! I do feel refreshed. I went to Malir Cantt last night to attend a Nikah (wedding) ceremony of one of my friends' brother. The larki's dad is in the Army and they had their house built inside that interesting area where I saw people were so concerned about security.
It was nice there as I met a person named Bilal who gave me good company while my friend (Ibad) was busy in other important things (guests se milna milana etc.)
I was not going to this daa'wat but it was my best buddy's (Ibad) brother and I was especially invited in this family-only gathering. I think it's a good habit to attend the parties you are invited to. Ibad would have been furious for sure had I not opted to go to this da'wat. I was not going because I had some work at home, but I'm glad I went there in the da'wat.
Talking about Malir Cantt, I didn't feel great there. I was like 'Man they've built such a big empire of their own!'. See, this feeling of calling the Army walas 'they' is so evident. I no more feel they are something close to us. I'm not 100% sure if I'm right though, but it seems so.
Bilal is a humble person and it was a pleasure to meet him. And I feel good that I did go in the Nikah. These parties are like the 'Disk Cleanup' utility I think! :)
I've got a new digital camera guys! It's so much fun thinking of yourself as a big gun in photography ;) cute tools like the Olympus Stylus 760 along with Paint Shop Pro surely make the job of becoming a cool photgrapher easy.
I've liked everything about the camera so far, the functions, the quality and the looks of the camera itself ;)
I bought it on the advice of Hamza Azeem, a really good photographer and a student from the Engineering Department at PAF-KIET.
I took the camera to KIET the next day of purchase and had some photos taken. Here are four of those:
I had a loooong chat with Munir, a travelling geek from some (almost) boys only university :P
We "discussed" about the situations when we have the option to select either of the two: emotions or logic. Look at the way I enclosed the word 'dicussed' in quotation marks; that means it was an interesting discussion ;P
I was in for logic and Munir was in favour of emotions. We kept putting up examples in favour of our beloved items and we ended up without agreeing to each other.
In between we discussed about why we should not work at Axact and how to go about toont toont tooooooont! :P when we're upset.
It was a nice gup shup, he gave me a nice couple of things to help me unfold the thing called life. We talked about Apple Mecca and how some people interpret the same things differently.
I am still in favour of not favouring the emotions :) but the rest of you might have different ideas!
We chatted about loaaaaaaadzzz of things for a looong time. It was so much fun, so much that we've decided to meet up next week as well. Adeel kameena and Amjad seth were busy so they couldn't come, no worries but we missed you guys!
I think it's really worth it, this meetup every sunday, so much fun and releases you of all the stress you've built up by working and studying.
I am coming closer Mr. Next Sunday! :)
I sometimes sit and think about the possibility of finding a person who thinks absolutely the same way about a particular issue as I do. It's not the overall thinking of that person but some issue that is of key importance to me.
I have come to realize that I am indeed not alone. Today I came across a person who thinks exactly like me in that particular issue. The issue, itself is something that I'd not want to disclose here; That's not the topic of the post anyway.
I just want to say that, if you ever come across a feeling that makes you think you are the only darn person on this planet having the same thought, you're mistaken, almost for sure.
There is always somebody out there who's like you and you're never alone!
I don't know if you guys have heard about this but Aaroh's Raag Neela is one hell of an album. I am marketing for it here on my blog as I know that Aaroh is an under rated band. It should be much appreciated than it is at the moment.
Farooq is one of the best vocalists I have ever heard, both live and recorded. This Raag Neela album brings a lot of great great tracks. I have been listening to this album since so long now and it seems to me I am probably too late in making this blog post lol.
But basically I am listening to Aaroh's songs right now and I thought I do need to mention them here. A couple of super awesome tracks take your attention straight away: "Jo Aankhon Mein" and "Wo Jo Kehdey Mujhe". Apart from these two, the title track 'Raag Neela' is a nice funky tune. The song which really made it all across the TV channels was 'Pyar Ka Jaal' which is awesome in its own right. Then we have a couple more lovely tracks and they are as good as the other songs in the album: "Ik Chah" and "Jaaney Kiu" are just so cool to listen to.
The album just doesn't end there, it has more tracks such as "Khuda" which is a soul mate for sure. So I recommend you all to actually buy this album and listen to it. Or if you do decide to fetch it off the web, do so but PLEASE PLEASE buy the album if you like it!
CIAO! Kami.
Alright, we just had a lot of fun this evening with Zaheer (our really cool CEO), Joe and Chris (Zaheer's partners). We went to Bar-B-Q Tonite (again) and had great food!
In that time we talked about a lot of things about the company (Centric Source), about movies and about each other :)
Chris had so much fun with the guys, he is really interested in getting better all the time. He is workin hard to get things in a much better shape than they are at the moment. As you know, you always have something to improve upon.
Zaheer, Joe and Chris, thanks so much on behalf of my team! we had a great time with you guys!
Plus, I also won a discount coupon of Rs.1000 outside the BBQ Tonite from the United Mobile promotions people who were standing outside of the resturant. Now I can get the Nokia 6120 Classic for Rs.1000 less than the market price! wohoo!
They are just not worth the time you give to them. They just do not listen. Their ego surrounds their world of great heights. I would only just try and just try my best to move along with the person of such kind. I am in the feeling that you should just stop working with such people. I am thinking I might end up doing that, let's hope for the best! :)
Some of the people are great! I met with our CEO's partners today and it felt so good. They are two guys basially, one is Joe and the other is Chris. They are nice people and have bright goals. They've come here from the US as part of their regular visits. They make me feel I am good to go on and have a great time. They have arranged for a dinner with our team tomorrow. Hopefully it is going to be a good one!
And Hey! I've got chocolates! Jeanne sent those to me via Chris. I have sent a 'thank you' email to Jeanne for that. Kaash Jeanne amma aap bhi yahan aatin with Chris... =)
Awrite, I'm back to pavillion! Cheers!
I purchased a hosting account for my blog some time back (that was when I started this site). I purchased quite a big account as I had some good amount of money back then :P
It has 600 GB of storage along with unlimited domain hosting and 50 MySQL databases along with so many other goodies. I realized that perhaps I made the wrong choice for a simple site such as a blog, atleast I would not be needing to spend money to get me 600 GB!
I was wrong, since I bought that account, I am sort of into hosting and domain business now :D
Usually people around keep coming with questions like 'man where can I find a cheap host and a domain name service' or 'k bhai please buy a domain and hosting account for my company' and so on. I didn't have those people in my mind when I paid for my hosting account, but now I realize that I am really lucky to have people around me asking such questions, as I have a better answer for them this time :)
Now I have hosted a large list of domain names and provided hosting services for a good number of people on my current hosting account, and the profit has already crossed my initial expenses when I bought that domain and hosting for my sweet little blog.
So essentially I am hosting this site for free! :P or perhaps I should say I have earned it lol!
The 4 Man Show on AAJ TV is one of the most fun filled shows I have ever come across! These guys are just too good. They come up with stuff of such quality that keeps our hopes alive of getting quality entertainment from the local channels. There are other programs too like Hum Sab Umeed Se Hain but the 4 Man Show beats all the others hands down! Nadia and Khalid Butt are just so awesome lol!
Here are a couple of videos I saw on youtube and I cannot stop laughing! You better see these two clips on youtube to be in full agreement with me. The video clips show Khalid Butt interviewing Ahmed Raza Kasuri, the government's lawyer who went out of his mind in "The Great Debate" at Geo TV and started swearing really badly! I was literally on my floor when I was watching that and I have watched that now for about a mentazillian times and I still enjoy it.
